Birdwing vines on Trellis
Here we see some birdwing vines growing on a specially constructed trellis in the garden. I fertilize the vines on the 1st of the month with either Aquasol, Thrive, fish emulsion etc. Soil type is heavy clay. Vines are growing in sun and shade in a rainforest setting. Vines planted in heavy shade have failed to thrive Best vines are those planted in semi-shade whilst the vines on the pergola are in full sun. The 10 vines planted on the pergola have hoyas and a single pandorea vine as companion plants so lava can move off main vine to moult and pupate. Morning sun till noon is good as long as vines do not dry out and are mulched well. Vines do well in sandy loam. Waterlogging has been a problem in some areas in the garden especially at the pergola site We now have over 60 vines planted out in our 1H garden. We have a few vines in tubs as a trial.
